Service Recap | December 4th

2nd Week of Advent | Stories

This Sunday was the 2nd Sunday of Advent. This service featured story telling. Tina Rice and Jessica Hogue each shared personal stories. These stories invited reflection on themes of grief, longing, expectations, and hope. Their stories were recorded and will be posted online later this week. Caleb offered a brief homily on John the Baptist which tried to tie together the movements of the story with our Advent theme.

Prayer

God of Justice, as we enter this second week of advent, your Reign awaits! Teach us to live in peace. Teach us to bear the fruit of repentance. And teach us to prepare the way for the Holy One coming to redeem us.

We grieve the loss of Ed Brown, a young man who grew up in Breakthrough Urban Ministry's programs. Ed was shot and killed this past week. We pray for Breakthrough as they grieve the loss of this young man. We pray for Ed's family and friends who are trying to make sense of his loss. And we pray for an end to gun violence in our city. (More information on his passing can be found here.)

We pray for those who have lost someone dear to them this year.  We pray that as they enter this season without their loved ones that you would provide continued hope, courage, and strength.

God of Justice, as we enter this second week of advent, your Reign awaits! Teach us to live in peace. Teach us to bear the fruit of repentance. And teach us to prepare the way for the Holy One coming to redeem us.

Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.
