15 Year Benefit Dinner: Celebrating our Past, Funding out Future
On November 18, 2017 we hosted a benefit dinner to celebrate 15 years of public worship as a church. We also used the celebration as an opportunity to fundraise for our future. We sang songs, ate great food provided by Baker Miller, and heard 6 vignettes from Grace Chicago members about how Grace had impacted their lives.
Creating Worship: Our Community's Response to the Gospel. Part 1: SING
In October of 2017, we used funds provided by a grant from the Calvin Institute for Worship (Funded by the Lilly Foundation), to host a workshop on singing. The music of Grace Chicago is one of the most unique aspects of our congregation. Using our voices is a vulnerable act, yet it is also such a fundamental part of being human. For this workshop, we met at Lill Street Loft to worship, sing, and eat together. It was a wonderful time!
Taste the Grape, 2017
Taste the Grape is Grace Chicago's annual wine tasting event. This event has become a staple of our community. Each year, a part of the world is elected and wines from that region flow all night. Baker Miller catered our food in 2017 and it was delicious. In 2017, our wine tasting was hosted in February and in 2018 we will once again be hosting a February wine tasting. It's a great event to invite friends to!
Homily Audio
Audio of our weekly homilies are available as podcasts through iTunes or online by clicking the header. The homilies at Grace Chicago try to be a bit briefer than typical sermons at most churches. They also always follow the practice of communion (Eucharist, Lord's Table) and are tied to one or two scriptures that are read previously in the service. We're happy to provide the audio content, but to experience the worship service, you'll really need to join us on a Sunday :)
Liturgical Art
Grace Chicago's worship is guided by the Christian calendar. The Christian year is based around biblical themes and the life of Jesus. Each season, artists in our community create visual art representations that go with the themes of the season. The link above has a sampling of some of those displays.
