Community at Grace
“No one of us individually believes as much or as well as all of us do communally. The church always believes more and better than any one of its members.”
Who Belongs?
Everyone!
Our tagline, “Christ at the Center, Chicago All Around,” means the good news of God’s redemption in Jesus is at the heart of who we are and what we do. When Christ is at the center of a community, all are welcome. Hatreds and suspicions that divide people in normal human society are broken down through Christ’s death on the cross and resurrection from the dead. Therefore, every human being is welcome to become a member and fully participate in the fellowship of Grace Chicago Church, regardless of ethnicity, political affiliation, economic status, gender, or sexuality. Every human being is welcome at Grace.
To welcome all and live in unity is more challenging than one might think. Members at Grace live in community with people who disagree with them about scripture, politics, and social issues. We believe that those disagreements make us a stronger community -- not a weaker one. Further, we believe a community centered around the person of Christ ought to create space for disagreements and conversation because of our assurance that at the end of those conversations, we are still one family through Christ. We humbly remind ourselves that this unity is not of our own making, rather it is a precious gift from God, flowing from our common welcome in Christ.
YOU are welcome at Grace Chicago Church. We invite you to join us each week as we gather around the communion Table with the expectation that we will be shaped by God’s Spirit into Christ’s image.
We offer community groups where we share life together, and community service opportunities where we perform the good news of the gospel by serving others.
We also host events where we celebrate God’s good creation by enjoying food, drink, and good music; and educational forums where we think together about how to enact God’s justice and peace in this world.
We seek to embody and extend the resurrection life of Jesus in all of the places we inhabit, participating in the good work that God is doing in the world.
